Bovril Pilchard Ragout

Makes: 4 – 6 portions   Cooking: Simmering Preparation Time: 20 – 25 minutes   Baking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

30 ml Olive oil (2 Tbsp)
1 Medium onion, chopped
1 Garlic cloves, chopped
3 Mixed peppers, chopped (1 of each colour)
410 g Pilchards (1 Tin)
410 g Baked Beans (1 Tin)
5 ml Salt (1 tsp)
5 ml Black pepper (1 tsp)
10 ml Bovril (1 ½ tsp)

Method

  1. In a saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic for 3 minutes until soft. Add the peppers and cook for a further 2 minutes.
  2. Add pilchards into the onion mixture. Stir in the baked beans and gently simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in the Bovril and simmer for about 3 minutes. Serve hot.
