Herbed Mealie Pap

Makes: 6 portions Cooking: Stove Top
Preparation Time: 10 minutes  Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

750 g Mealie Meel (3 cups)
1 Water (4 cups)
15 ml Dried Mixed Herbs (1 Tbsp)
30 ml Butter (2 Tbsp)
5 ml Salt (1 tsp)

Method

  1. Boil water and salt together.
  2. Add the mielie meal, then mixed herbs and whisk into the boiling water to prevent lumps.
  3. Lower the heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring regularly using a wooden spoon.
  4. Add butter in the last 5 minutes of cooking and mix well.
  5. Serve in a bowl with Spicy Bovril Chakalaka on the side.
