Marmite Creamed Spinach
Makes: 4 – 6 portions Cooking: Simmering
Preparation Time: 20 – 25 minutes Baking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
| 500 | g | Spinach, washed and chopped |
| 30 | ml | Butter (2 Tbsp) |
| 1 | Medium onion, chopped | |
| 2 | Garlic cloves, chopped | |
| 15 | ml | Cake flour (1 Tbsp) |
| 250 | ml | Milk (1 Cup) |
| 125 | ml | Fresh cream (½ Cup) |
| 5 | ml | Salt (1 tsp) |
| 5 | ml | Black pepper (1 tsp) |
| 7 | ml | Marmite (1 ½ tsp) |
Method
- Bring a pot of water to the boil. Add the spinach and blanch for 2 – 3 minutes until wilted. Drain well and squeeze out excess water. Chop finely and set aside.
- In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté for 3 – 4 minutes until soft. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cream until smooth and thickened, for about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the chopped spinach and Marmite to the sauce and stir until the spinach is well coated and heated through. Serve hot.
