Marmite Popcorn
Makes: 4 portions Oven: N/A
Preparation Time: 20 minutes Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
| 45 | ml | Oil (3 Tbsp) |
| 15 | ml | Margarine (1 Tbsp) |
| 125 | ml | Popcorn kernels (±½ cup) |
Flavouring
| 60 | ml | Soft margarine (4 Tbsp) |
| 30 | ml | Marmite (2 Tbsp) |
Method
- In a pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Test the temperature by adding 2-3 popcorn kernels and cover the pot with a lid.
- Once popped, remove the pot from the heat. Discard the popped kernels, then add the remaining popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover with the lid and let sit for 30 seconds to allow the kernels to reach an even temperature.
- Return the pot to the heat. When the popping begins, gently shake the pot back and forth over the heat using oven mitts to prevent burning, until popping slows down. Remove the pot from the heat and transfer the popcorn into a wide bowl.
- Using the same pot, add the flavouring ingredients (soft margarine and Marmite) and return to low heat. Gently stir until the margarine has melted and the mixture is well combined, the remove from the heat.
- Pour the melted Marmite mixture over the popcorn in the bowl and stir until all the popcorn is evenly coated with the flavouring.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Best served warm with a cold drink or as a savoury snack for a movie night.
- Optional: Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
